Mandi: The Cultural Capital of Himachal Pradesh

Located in the Heart of Himachal Pradesh, Mandi city is known for its natural beauty, historical background, and cultural traditions. This picturesque town is located on the banks of the Beas River, nestled in the mountains and has its own appeal in each season.

Mandi is an ancient town that dates back almost 500 years. The town was established in 16th century by the Raja Ajbar Sen. Mandi was a significant place for trade along the India-Tibet trade route in ancient times. The old street layout and old architecture can still be found in the city today, and they testify to the city's glorious past.


                                           This is known as “Chhoti Kashi” or “the little city”.

The city of Mandi is also famous as “Chhoti Kashi” due to its many ancient Shiva temples. Out of which, the Bhootnath Temple, Triloknath Temple, Panchvaktra Mahadev Temple and Ardhanarishvara Temple are among the most renowned. They are also a beautiful structure and have religious importance which attracts thousands of people annually as devotees and tourists.

Mandi is one of the most popular places for visiting with the International Shivratri Festival. In this festival, deities from various parts of Himachal are taken to Mandi in majestic processions. This festival is a fantastic celebration of folk music, traditional dances, handicraft exhibitions and cultural performances.


                                                                     Natural Beauty

The beautiful Beas River, lush green mountains and the deodar forests surround Mandi. The serene environment makes it an excellent place for nature lovers and photographers. Other nearby places of interest include Prashar lake, Rewalsar lake, Sundernagar and Pandoh dam.

Mandi's culture is very much entrenched in the Himachali tradition. They are simple and hardworking and hospitable people here. Visit Mandi and taste the traditional dishes of Himachali including the Himachali Dham, Siddu, Babru, etc. and other local delicacies.

March to June and September to November are the best times to visit Mandi. The weather is also nice and mild during these months, allowing visitors to take advantage of the surrounding attractions and explore the city.
